Comprising about 50% of your total race time, the cycling segment of a triathlon is where equipment choices can make the difference between the first and fifth, and no other equipment choice will save more time than a lenticular wheel. Although lenticular wheels in traditional shape are faster than their spokes counterparts, the Roval 321 Disc for disc brakes takes a turn around the conventional design, creating the fastest wheel on the planet.

Lenticular wheels usually fall into two categories - a completely flat shape, with the structure coming from carbon fiber and a honeycomb foam interior, or a spokes wheel that has been finished with a carbon fiber cover. In our ambition to break with tradition, the 321 uses a single layer of 1k carbon fibre on each side of the wheel, and everything comes together on the bridge of the brake tracks. This type of carbon fibre is rarely used in bicycle components due to its high manufacturing cost, but offers a number of performance benefits. This coveted carbon is much lighter than other types of carbon, such as 3k and 12k, and can only be laid out by the most skilled carbon fiber craftsmen. It is more complicated, but the result is worth it, as it offers a smoother ride and one of the lightest lenticular wheels available today. And in the real world, this means that it will rotate quickly and reduce fatigue throughout the race.

Rigidity is often the "hot topic" in the world of lenticular wheels, but we find it an interesting conversation. It has long been thought that efficient energy transfer and high stiffness are directly correlated, but through extensive field testing we have determined that this is by no means the case. In fact, our initial disk was so hard that, when exposed to effort, it did not flex with the frame and this caused a friction in the brake. This wrongly creates the perception of a flexible wheel, when in fact, the wheel is really too rigid. To solve the problem of brake friction, we first designed our ideal aero shape and then worked on our ideal internal stiffness values to achieve what we considered to be desirable frame stiffness.

E, although low total weight was a priority in development, our focus was on aerodynamics. After hours of working with Computational Fluid Dynamics (computational fluid dynamics) and testing in the Win Tunnel, we developed an unprecedented way that is optimized to work with the tyre for on-bike air flow. This translates into a carbon lenticular wheel which, on the purely shape side has the best aerodynamics that our current understanding allows, and on the cycling side is as aerodynamic as the wheel and spacing for the transmission allow.

To save all possible watts, we have also added CeramicSpeed bearings and DT Swiss 240 inner hubs to our hub. Each 321 Disc lenticular wheel is also 2Bliss Ready of origin and comes with a padded wheel bag, quick-release and tubeless valve.

Designed for the world's most demanding athletes, with engineering to match this requirement, the 321 Disc is the world's most advanced lenticular wheel for your race against the clock."
